What Are Appliances

Given the influx of smart devices, the definition of appliance needs to change to reflect the latest innovations. Most of the home appliances have now been turned into smart gadgets that can be managed and controlled from the smartphones or the special remote control.

The smart appliance concept is further expanding to include voice control and you can, therefore, voice commands from your couch to light up your stove and start cooking. The above comes with great benefits as they help save power by triggering an automatic power-down; however not all smart home appliances can save energy, but if you invest in the smart plugs to use together with your smart appliances then you will be able to save a lot of money on power bills.

And for as much as we have managed to use most of the smart appliances, we are sure that we haven’t tried them all, however, we plan on sharing information on the ones that we have interacted with.

History Of Appliances

The world is not only going crazy with appliances but with the smart appliances, I mean anything that you can think of, is already out there waiting for you to discover. And truth be told domestic servants are five minutes away from being done away with completely given the automation of most houses into smart homes.

Now let’s go back down history lane, appliances have been in existence since the 1900s and in between that time and the 20th century almost all the homes in the first world countries had all the domestic appliances that made their lives a bit easy. And as the appliance industry grew over the years attracting a revenue of about $3.3 billion between the years 1982 and 1990, the appliance geeks were busy pulling resources to move from the boring manual appliances to the now smart hands-free devices.

Important to note, however, is that the idea of smart appliances has been hanging in the air since the 1930’s when inventors tried their hands-on home automation technologies but didn’t push through with it until 1966. Fast forward to the 20th century and the innovation of the home appliances takes center stage and all of a sudden all the manual home appliances are rendered traditional.

What Are The Disadvantages Of Smart Appliances

Smart appliances when incorporated in your home can really ease your mind, as they offer comfort for people who come home late and all they want to do is rest. They also secure your home if you have to stay away from your home for a long time, for the above all you need to do is place a smart lamp close to the window and switch it on and off from your home to create an illusion that you are home.

There are also a few disadvantages tied to these devices, for example, they are highly dependent on the internet, to function effectively, however, some like the smart locks can operate without the internet. The installation cost is also high; before you get your home to work with the smart appliances you are going to have to install a couple of devices that are quite pricey, not to mention the cost of labor.

Home Automation experts insist on installing a device at a time as you learn how to use them, the reason being that if you automate your home at once then running the different appliances can be confusing meaning that the smart appliances are highly dependent on professionals.
